Storytelling Ignites Cornelia Street Cafe

Due to the fiery level of talent at the “City Stories: Stoops to Nuts” show last night, the artists were delivered to the Cornelia Street Cafe in an Explosives truck. Luckily, I caught the truck idling at a light during its rounds.

Thank you, Lisa Burns, Dylan Maida, Nicole Ferraro, Julia Joseph, Francesca Rizzo & Adam Wade for one of the best shows ever at Cornelia Street Café. Your stories, songs and musicianship blew away the standing room packed house. Thank you, Danielle Marks for your terrific artists photos here from last night’s performance. Thank you, Jon Calvert, for filming the action. Thank you, to an incredibly supportive audience; it was a kick to have so many people out on a night right after the holidays.

When you share an event like this together, it hangs in for a long time.

Everybody, please come back to “City Stories: Stoops to Nuts” real soon.  Hugs, Tommy

Storytelling in Central Park & Cornelia Street Cafe

50 years ago in 1961, Dad bought a Yashica 44 camera and the golden age of Pryor photography was lit much to the chagrin of Mom, Rory and me. Dad was relentless and we were his subjects. No back drop was safe. He caught us hungry, moody, sweaty, itchy, bitchy, happy, mad, goofy, every feeling a tightly wound family experiences.

One of our first trips with the new camera was over to Central Park so we could hit all the great statues. Rory and my favorite was Hans Christian Anderson sitting and reading "The Ugly Duckling" to the duck, I thought this was so nice of him. How considerate, writing a story about someone, then reading that story to them. As we walked around Sailboat Lake after the photos I thought, I gotta do that someday.

Next Tuesday, June 14th @ 6pm @ Cornelia Street Café, wonderful storytellers and songsmiths keep up Mr. Anderson’s tradition. “City Stories: Stoops to Nuts” storytelling show presents: Barbara Aliprantis, Nicole Ferraro, Don Piper, Francesca Rizzo and Edward Rogers. Expect to hear stories and songs about transformation. Admission is $7 bills (quack!) with one free drink.

City Stories: Stoops to Nuts ~ A Storytelling Show on April 12th @ 6pm

Walking downtown to see Francesca Rizzo in "Dames Like Her," her hilarious solo show at Cornelia Street Cafe (Ms. Rizzo owned the sold out crowd. The woman next to me laughed so hard she dumped a glass of red wine on my pants), I passed a bus load of out of towners near the UN. They were in from Philly, dressed light. Being chilly, I lent my coat to a few. Ran into Betty and Chloe who took a picture with Fred Frump, one of the visitors.

Barbara Aliprantis, has curated a terrific storytelling show at Cornelia Street Cafe for 14 straight years every month on the second Tuesday. Barbara is taking a sabbatical and I'm holding the candle until she returns.

My first "City Stories; Stoops to Nuts," storytelling show is Tuesday, April 12th @ 6pm @ Cornelia Street Cafe, with storytellers & songsmiths: Michele Carlo, Claudia Chopek, D.Indalecio Guzman, Amanda Thorpe, Adam Wade, Ward White. Please come down, I promise you a wonderful time.
