I've never been to a race track in my life. Now I have.
Passing through the gate under the Saratoga grandstand this past Saturday gave me a spectacular rush. It reminded me of the first time I attended a Yankee Stadium baseball game. The crowd, the semi-darkness, the heat and the smells all simliar to that day in 1961 when I was seven years old.
I lost my gambling itch a long time ago but the urge to compete, the joy of participating in ceremony and sharing an ageless tradition these things are easily retrievable for me, like riding a bicycle. I always snap back.
Here is a link to many photographs of the track and Saratoga Springs.
