Second Avenue ~ Then & Now

Second Avenue is a war zone. Here's a photo from 1934 taken at the corner of 80th Street and Second Avenue with the Subway El still there. The photographs that follow are from last night. Let there be peace in the valley and maybe one of these decades on Second Avenue, too.

Great set of photos! That stretch of 2nd Avenue was so much fun until not so long ago but I can't see the mess that it is now being cleared up anytime soon . . . as for the empty store on the NE corner of 80th in your last shot, why empty for so long? And the fire at the Hungarian store?

Hi Patti, thank you. My understanding is the Hungarian Meat Store is not going to reopen and the store on the opposite corner recently closed down and I'm not sure what is planned there if anything.
